A fundraising appeal has been announced to help the family of Molly Dempsey who died at the weekend.

Molly (15) passed away following a road accident shortly before 5am in Slaney Park, Baltinglass on May 5.

Molly’s death is the latest tragedy to hit the Dempsey family after her older brother Roy died in September 2007 when he was just 13 years of age.

In 2016, the Dempsey family suffered another heartbreak when her sibling, Killian, died suddenly, aged just 16.

Family friends created the GoFundMe page on Wednesday which states:

"Hi everyone, we are hoping to raise some money for the Dempsey/Fox family who lost Molly their youngest daughter at only 15 years old, on Sunday morning in a tragic road accident.

“Molly was the youngest of nine children, two brothers have passed before her. Molly was so energetic, she had the most wonderful personality and would light up the whole room.

"She loved and adored her niece and nephews, Molly lost her two brothers Roy and Killian and is now reunited with both of them. So today we would like everyone to come together and help this family at one of their most unfortunate times.

"Thanks for taking the time to read this and any donations are very much appreciated, #forever15 #foreveryoung.”

One close friend wrote on social media that Molly’s death had broken lives “into pieces”.

“In your short life you have brought many laughs and smiles to people all around you. I know for sure you have always put a smile on my face and never failed to make me laugh with your goofiness and your great personality!

"I’ve always seen you as my little sister and that will never change. You were the most loving caring and kind-hearted person that I’ve ever come across and would always go above and beyond for anyone!

"You always had a smile on your face and a cheeky little smile at that. You always had something smart to say when I walked through them doors to your house if it wasn’t ‘Why didn’t you get a sports car?’ or ‘You again, have you not got your own home?’ ”

"I hope your big brothers are up there looking after you and hope you all are looking over your friends and family during this hard time.

"Molly. we always had a saying when I was leaving your house and sadly now for final time ‘Goodbye best friend that I hate’, rest in peace my beautiful angel, we all love you and miss you so much.”

Molly was pronounced dead at the scene on Sunday, while the driver of the car, a male also in his teens, was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Road Traffic Act.

Molly’s funeral takes place on Thursday and the fundraiser can be found here.
